Powerful and Classy, 2008 Lincoln Navigator
is the only true luxury sport utility
vehicle available. First in
the industry, the 2008 Navigator's power
running boards quietly deploy a full four
inches when the door is opened and retract
when the door is closed. So entry and exit
becomes effortless. Exclusive to its class,
there’s also a power liftgate, which raises
and lowers in about 10 seconds with the
press of a button, located on the key fob
and overhead console. Inside the car, these
amenities continue ad infinitum.
Satin
Nickel interior graces a number of interior
surfaces, while genuine American burl walnut
wood inserts and the wood-trimmed steering
wheel add elegance. A variety of online
retailers are now providing wonderful 2008 Lincoln Navigator pictures accessories,
such as running lights, window shades, and
license plate treatments. Inspired by the
timeless elegance of the 1961 Lincoln Continental,
the new instrument panel illuminates not
only the controls and switches inside the
cabin, but the impeccable attention to design.
The
SUV even boasts an available power-folding
third-row seat that conveniently folds flat
to the floor, then returns to its original
position. The 2008 Lincoln Navigator features
so many of these wonderful touches, it’s
amazing people would drive anything else.
And with a host of 2008 Lincoln Navigator
pictures accessories, the Navigator truly
can be all things to all people.

Lincoln Navigator Information
|
|
Both
the Cadillac and the Lincoln undercut the next nearest
competitor, the Lexus LX 470, in price, making them
that much more attractive. Over time, Lincoln improved
the original by bumping horsepower and torque to better
handle the Navigator's significant weight. But despite
regular improvements, sales began to falter as newer
and better competitors from the USA, Europe and Japan
arrived on the market.
Acura
hit the ground running in 2001 with the MDX, a seven-passenger
SUV that drove like a car and looked like a truck. Worse
for the Navigator, it was less expensive, got better
fuel economy and sated consumer desires for a roomy
SUV with a luxury nameplate. Then, the Navigator's most
direct competitor, the Cadillac Escalade, was completely
redesigned for 2002, featuring a powerful 6.0-liter
345-horsepower V8, a sophisticated road-sensing suspension
and chiseled styling that appealed to buyers looking
for a rugged appearance. Fortunately, Lincoln wasn't
resting on its laurels.
For
2008, the Navigator is completely redesigned, retaining
key styling cues and adding appreciated features such
as an independent rear suspension, power-retractable
running boards, a power liftgate and power-folding third-row
seating. Available DVD entertainment and a navigation
system keep the vehicle abreast of the latest techno
toys, and the new cabin is artfully rendered with a
dual-cowl design reminiscent of Lincolns built in the
1960s.
Though
the new Navigator's 300-horsepower, 5.4-liter V8 engine
is carried over from before, it delivers smooth power
and manages to motivate this Lincoln's prodigious curb
weight with verve. With room for as many as eight passengers,
plenty of creature comforts and a distinctive appearance,
the new-for-2008 Navigator is sure to please buyers
for whom nothing but the biggest and the best will do.
Three
trim levels are available: Luxury, which is the base
model, comes equipped with such luxury items like dual-zone
climate control, an in-dash six-disc changer, roof rack
and power-folding side mirrors. The Premium will get
you the AdvanceTrac stability control system, heated
and cooled seats. Still not satisfied? Opting for the
Ultimate trim allows for the power liftgate, power-fold
third-row seats and high-intensity discharge headlamps.
Options for all levels include a navigation system,
AdvanceTrac, a DVD rear-seat entertainment system, a
tire-pressure monitor and heated and cooled seats. The
power-deploying running boards are exclusive to the
Ultimate model. Like the '02 model, the Navigator is
powered by smoothly operating, 300-horsepower, dual-overhead
cam, 5.4-liter V8 engine with 355 pound-feet of torque.
Fuel
mileage, as expected, leaves something to be desired.
It's mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, and
the truck can tow up to 8,000 pounds. The Navigator
is replete with the latest safety systems, such as side
curtain airbags, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
and BrakeAssist. AdvanceTrac stability control, combined
with the ControlTrack four-wheel-drive system, allows
the Navigator to progress even if only one wheel has
traction. Vehicles without AdvanceTrac come with a limited-slip
differential. Optional is a tire-pressure monitoring
system.
Last
year, the Navigator received five stars in front crash
testing conducted by the NHTSA, and we'd expect similar
scores for this year. The Navigator's interior space
was always one of its selling points, whether you're
carrying seven or eight passengers. Should you opt for
the three-passenger second-row seat, you'll find that
the middle section slides forward 11 inches, making
it easier to interact with the little ones. The third-row
seat offers best-in-class legroom.
A power-fold
option allows for easy access to the cargo space, as
does a power liftgate. Power-deploying sideboards, available
on the Ultimate model, facilitates egress and ingress
just in case the air suspension doesn't lower the truck
enough. A DVD entertainment system keeps the troops
mesmerized and quiet. The Navigator's interior has also
been upgraded, with copious amounts of walnut burl wood,
leather trim and classy metal accents. Handling is the
biggest improvement for 2008, thanks to significant
changes in the suspension and body structure.
The strengthened
frame results in a 70-percent improvement in torsional
rigidity and 67-percent better resistance to bending.
This translates to improved responsiveness, a tighter
assembly feel and a more solid ride quality. Unlike
the previous Navigator, the new 2008 version features
an independent rear suspension and air springs, both
of which help to smooth out rough road and keep the
massive wheels glued to the pavement. Steering is also
dramatically improved for 2008. The new rack and pinion
system that replaced the old recirculating-ball design
actually produces road feel through the leather-and-wood
rim. A highly desirable luxury SUV.
