Saehan Motor's was exporting its automobiles
to forty nations in 1976. In the late 1970's
its management was taken over by Daewoo, and
the company was renamed Daewoo Motor
Company, Ltd. in1983. The joint venture with
GM ended in October 1992 and Daewoo
continued to lead Korea's auto industry.
Daewoo
entered the U.S. market under its own name
with the 1999 model year. Sales were sluggish
at first, but had been rising when its parent
company was taken over. Even so, Daewoo
never achieved the success of South Korean
rivals Hyundai and Kia.

Lanos Information
|
|
The Daewoo
Lanos comes in both 2 door and 4 door options. The Lanos
is a fun filled car to drive and is very reliable. The
Korean automotive industry started in 1937 with the
establishment of the National Motor Company on the site
of Daewoo's Pupyong Plant. In 1962 the company was renamed
Saenara Motor Company. In 1965, Shinjin Industrial Co.
(maker of Korea's first sedans named "Shinsungho"
at the site of Daewoo's Pusan Plant) acquired Saenara's
Pupyong Plant, established a technical collaboration
agreement with Japan's Toyota, and renamed itself Shinjin
Motor Company, Ltd.
In less
than five years Daewoo's ambitious planning came to
fruition when the Lanos assembly line started production
for the Korean market in November 1996. The Lanos assembly
line opened in December. And the Leganza assembly line
started in February 1997. Shortly afterward, the Nubira
and Lanos assembly lines commenced production for the
European market. In 1998, Daewoo Motor America was formed
to start marketing Daewoo products - under the Daewoo
name - in the United States.
