The phenomenally successful commercial enterprice know around the world today as the Cadillac Motor Car Division of General Motors Corporation was born on the hot afternoon of August 22, 1902 when an enthusiastic group of Detroit businnessmen sat down to dissolve a small aotomobile manufacturing company and organize a new one. Several days earlier, principal officers of the failing Henry Ford Company had approached Henry M.Leland for an appraisal of the equipment andbuildings owned by the company they wished to liquidate.

The first Cadillac was designated the Model "A". It was a buggylike two-seater built on a 76 inch wheelbase and weighed 1.395 pounds in standard trim. It stood 57.5 inches high, was 111inches long and67 inches wide.

The aluminum DOHC 32-valve Northstar V8 produces a cool 300 horsepower at 6,000 rpms.
